Otoplasty

Many people have heard of Otoplasty, but are not exactly sure what it is. It is a surgical reconstruction of your ears. Many people have it done because they have an ear deformity, some people think they have big ears, and some just want to reshape the cartilage that is in their ears.

This surgery can involve different things such as adding, reshaping or even taking out structural elements in the cartilage of your ear. There are three different types of surgeons that can perform this procedure; a plastic surgeon, an ENT specialist, or a maxilla oral surgeon.

The most common way for this procedure to be done is under general anesthesia. This means that the patient is put to sleep during the surgery. Before the surgery, the patient is given strict instructions that must be followed in order to be ready for the surgery.

Just like with any other type of surgery, there will be risks and complications involved. Some of the different ones that may occur are; infection, narrowing of the ear canal, bleeding, not being happy with the outcome of the surgery, temporary or permanent numbness in your ear. If you are not happy with the outcome of the surgery, a second surgery can be performed to change it.

You will not be allowed any strenuous activity for a few weeks after the surgery. Now that you know this important information about Otoplasty, you need to do a little more research before deciding if it is right for you. It is also a good idea to talk to a surgeon about changing your ears before making your final decision. If you live in Lake Oswego, Oregon or anywhere else, make sure you find a surgeon that is located close to you.
