Cosmetic, surgical procedures are typically done with one of two types of sedation: General Anesthesia or I.V. Sedation. Generally, out-patient, cosmetic procedures on the face and neck are best accomplished with I.V. sedation to minimize risk and maximize post surgical recovery.

I.V. Sedation Benefits

Why Dr. Robinson Utilizes I.V. Sedation in all of his Procedures.

  • I.V. sedation has been clinically proven to be the safest and most effective means of sedation.
  • I.V. sedation is custom for each patient. The amount of sedation is adjusted and tailor fit for the comfort level of each individual. This allows each patient to have their own unique surgical experience without pain or discomfort.
  • Unlike general anesthesia, I.V. sedation does not require a breathing tube or assistance in breathing by a machine.
  • Because patients are not fitted with a breathing tube, they are able to answer basic questions and directions from the surgeon. This allows the surgeon to quickly assess if you are experiencing discomfort or pain during your procedure.
  • The onset of I.V. sedation is rapid and comfortable and is administered through your I.V. access port that also supplies fluids through-out your surgery. Multiple injections are not necessary.
  • Recovery time of I.V. sedation quick. A typical patient will recover and are able to go home in 30-40 minutes. General anesthesia often requires 3-4 hours of monitoring and can require an overnight stay in monitoring facility.
  • Prolonged I.V. sedation, if you combine procedures, does not increase your risks and is better tolerated than that of general anesthesia. Because a breathing tube is not required there is little risk of damage to the lungs and chance of blood clots forming.
  • I.V. sedation is less likely to cause nausea post surgically allowing you to have a more restful recovery.
